Help and support
Answers for parents, carers and teachers. Still stuck? Email info@wraplet.app. We read every message.
Getting started
- Sit with your child for about five minutes a day. A grown-up nearby makes practice work much better.
- In the grown-up area, open Sounds & tips and pick the sounds your child is working on (p, b, m, t, d, k, g, f, s, sh, ch, l, r, th). If you are not sure, ask your child's speech therapist.
- Press Play. Pip says the sound or word first, your child says it, and the game moves with their voice.
- Pip moves up a step when your child gets 8 of the last 10 tries right, and mixes in review words.
The grown-up area
Tap the lock button on the home screen. A short parental gate (press and hold, or a small sum) keeps young children out. Inside you will find progress, Sounds & tips, Then vs Now, the PDF report, Settings & mic test, the therapist link and Pip Plus.
Microphone and word checking
The games don't react to my child's voice
Open Settings & mic test and start the test. Stay quiet for 3 seconds, then have your child say "ssss". The bar should cross the line when they speak, not when the room is quiet. Use More sensitive or Less sensitive until it does.
If the microphone permission is off, the app uses tap mode: the grown-up rates each try. You can turn the microphone on again from the same screen.
Pip doesn't check words, only how long the voice is
Word checking uses the phone's own offline speech model for English. On Android 13 and newer you can download it from the phone's Settings (search for "offline speech recognition" or "speech recognition languages"). Without it, Pip judges tries by voice length and steadiness. Single sounds and syllables are always judged that way, because phones cannot recognise them.
Pip said "right" but the sound wasn't perfect
Phone speech recognition is built to understand what someone means, so Pip's "right" means "understandable", not "every sound perfect". For precise practice, switch on Settings > Grown-up checks each try and rate every try yourself (Right, Almost, Not yet).
Does Pip send my child's voice anywhere?
No. Recognition runs on the phone, offline. The voice is never sent to us, to Google or to anyone else. See the privacy policy.
Deleting data
Everything is stored only on your phone, so you are in control. In the grown-up area, open Settings & mic test:
- One child: under Children, choose the child, then Remove [name] and their progress.
- Voice clips: Delete all recordings, or delete single clips in Then vs Now.
- Everything: Delete ALL data removes every child, all progress and all recordings. This cannot be undone.
- Uninstalling the app also deletes everything. Android cloud backup is switched off for Pip Talk, so nothing is copied to Google Drive.
Therapist link
If you linked the app to your child's speech therapist, deleting on the phone stops future uploads but does not by itself delete what was already shared. To delete it:
- Open Link to my speech therapist and press Stop sharing. This unlinks the phone and deletes everything it uploaded from our server straight away (the phone needs to be online).
- Or ask the therapist to remove your child from their account.
- Or email info@wraplet.app with the therapist's name or the date you linked (never your child's full name). We delete it within 30 days.
Restoring Pip Plus
Pip Plus belongs to the Google account that bought it.
- Make sure the phone is signed in to the same Google account in the Play Store, and is online.
- Open the grown-up area, then Pip Plus.
- Press Restore purchases. You should see "Pip Plus is back on."
If it says no purchase was found, check the Google account in the Play Store app (Play Store > profile picture > Payments & subscriptions > Budget & history). Payments, receipts and refunds are handled by Google Play; we never see payment details, but we are happy to help you contact Google.
New phone and backups
Progress lives on the phone. Before changing phones, open the grown-up area and, under Backup, press Save backup file. Keep the file somewhere safe (for example email it to yourself). On the new phone, install Pip Talk and use Restore from backup file in the same place. Pip Plus comes back with Restore purchases.
Contact us
Email info@wraplet.app. If something broke, it helps to include the phone model and, from Settings > Diagnostics, the shared diagnostics text (short error codes only, no names or audio). Please never send your child's full name or recordings.
Pip Talk is a practice tool, not therapy or a diagnosis. If you are worried about your child's speech, talk to a speech-language pathologist.
